Block of the Month Information and Guidelines
Each month a new block is introduced at the guild meeting. You can pick up instructions and guidelines for colors and/or fabrics. Block patterns are usually beginner-friendly, but are sometimes a challenge and will encourage you to stretch your skills! Remember—you only need to make one block to participate, so look at this as an opportunity to try something new.
Bring your finished block to the next guild meeting with your name attached to the back (a pre-printed stick on mailing label is perfect, but a small slip of paper temporarily basted into the outside seam allowance also works). Labels should be TEMPORARY but attached well enough to survive being stacked, hung on the wall, sorted and sent home with the winner(s).
The "Golden Rule" of swapping applies here: bring blocks of a quality that you would like to receive. Fabrics should be 100% pre-washed quilting cotton and should follow any fabric or color guidelines provided with the instructions. Blocks should be VERY close to the finished size guidelines. If you bring multiple blocks to enter, it's fine to use the same background fabric, but the other fabric in the blocks should be different.

Remember, no committment is required. You don't have to sign-up in advance, and you don't have to play every month. If you'd like to donate to help with the cost of printing the instructions for the block, you can do so at the Block of the Month table at the guild meetings.
Winners are randomly drawn at the end of the guild meetings. The number of blocks received each month will determine how many names are drawn. Each winner will receive approximately 15-20 blocks, depending on how many are entered. When there are multiple winners, the total amount of blocks entered is divided evenly.
If you'd like to make an extra block for the Community Outreach quilt projects, please place it in the basket marked for those quilts at the guild meeting. It only takes about 12 blocks to make one child-sized quilt for this group—together we can fill a need in a child's life.
If you have questions or suggestions for patterns or techniques, Jeni Overbey, Dawn Hunter and Sue Ellis would love to hear them!
