The Community Outreach Committee is dedicated to creating quilts for those who need them most. Over the last year, this group has made over 100 quilts which have been donated to the Longmont Police Department and the Left-Hand Fire Department, for Officers and Firefighters to distribute to people in need or in crisis situations. Often these quilts have gone to families and children right here in Longmont. Together we are filling a unique need in our community with these quilts.

Quilts created by the Community Outreach Committee are donated to the Longmont Police Department, LEVI (Longmont Ending Domestic Violence Initiative), Teen (Young) Mothers and the Colorado Home of the Brave Project. Occasionally we are asked to donate to other causes, and all are taken under careful consideration.

The "Home of the Brave" Project makes quilts for the families of military personnel who have lost their lives in action. It began in 2004 in California, and now almost every state is involved in the Home of the Brave Quilt Project. Quilts are made and given to the families of soldiers killed fighting the War on Terror in Afghanistan and Irag. The quilts are replicas of a Civil War era quilt, which was made by Northern women for their soldiers and distributed by the U.S. Sanitary Commission. The Coordinators for Colorado are Roslyn Atwood of Ridgway and Gale Smith of Montrose. Colorado has also volunteered to make quilts for families in Kansas since that state currently has no coordinator. This worthwhile project is our way of expressing our gratitude to these soldiers for their service and sacrifice to their country. The Longmont Quilt Guild is taking part in this project by making the Album Cross blocks and completing quilts to send to our state coordinators.
